The castle of Turenne
From its impregnable cliff of 20 meters high, it dominates the houses of the village of Turenne which surround it.
Only a steep slope, once guarded by three successive gates, gives access to it.
Two towers, the last vestiges of the old buildings, emerge from the platform of 1500 m² which is still surrounded by walls.
To the north, the tower of Caesar is a cylindrical tower of the XIII ° century which was used to receive the signals of the towers of relays of Nazareth and the Gardelle towards the Limousin and the Périgord.
In the south, the so-called tower of the Donjon or the Treasury, where money was beaten, dates from the fourteenth century, on the eve of the Hundred Years War. |
History of the site of Turenne, in Corrèze
From its promontory, the castle of Turenne opens its doors to the room of the guards of the XIVth century, its flower garden and its Caesar Tower of the XIth century to take full advantage of an exceptional panorama on what was Vicomté.
In the heart of one of the most beautiful villages in France, the castle of Turenne embarks you for a return to the past!
