The Martel steam train

Discover the Dordogne Valley by the old railway line carved in the cliff at 80 meters height.
Each journey is planned from Martel to Saint Denis (Return trip).
According to the schedule, a magnificent steam locomotive or a powerful diesel is at the head of the train near Martel station, ready to transport you on a fantastic journey. A trip of 13 km round trip on a ledge to the discovery of the Dordogne Valley and its admirable panoramas.

The Truffadou
This old Bordeaux - Aurillac line was built between 1880 and 1884.
Commissioned in 1889, it comes to compete with the traffic in gabares (boats with flat bottom that sail on the Dordogne) of our "River Hope".
Referred back to 1917 for the military needs of the First World War, it was rebuilt in 1919, with American railways still in place to date, from Martel to Saint Denis.
At the time, the train was used for shipping truffles from the Martel market, hence the name "Truffadou"
